The very basic difference between heat transfer and sublimation is the process and the material on which it is printed.
In sublimation the ink which is printed on the sublimation paper, is in its solid state. When it is exposed to a certain amount of heat and Pressure (Depends upon the material being printed), The Ink in the solid states changes its physical state from solid to gas bypassing the liquid state. This is possible because ink is formulated to vaporize at a certain temperature. The release of the ink is what allows the transferring to such Brilliant colors and fine details.
When it comes to heat transfer, vinyl paper is used for the process. It can be used for printing of large area cloth. and it ca also be used for 100% cotton. The results are debatable but it has been a successful method of printing till DTG was introduced in the market.
